BiCO Prototypes (Update)

I have good news and bad news regarding the latest BiCO prototypes that I’ve been working on for well over a year now. Let’s start with the bad news to get that out of the way…

The buzzbait has been a long and frustrating journey. I finally have the bait working close to how I wanted it to, but to be honest it’s not great. It’s good, and I’ve caught a lot of fish on it, but it’s not great. I want every bait I put out there to be something special, and I’m not going to release the buzzbait unless it performs exactly how I want it to.

As frustrating as it was to spend all that time and money on the buzzbait, and as much as I wanted to have it in our lineup for this fall, it’s just not going to happen this year. I needed a break from it and put it on the back burner for now, and spent all of my time focused on the BiCO BoMB. And that’s where the good news comes in…

After designing, making, and fishing many different versions of the BoMB, I finally have a one ounce design that I am very happy with. I have never fished a so-called “punch jig” that penetrates the way this one does. This bait goes in and out of vegetation perfectly.

But penetration was only half the battle during the design of the BiCO BoMB. The next hurdle was the hookup ratio, which I wasn’t completely satisfied with on the previous models. But I can finally say that this version is absolutely perfect.

I fished it for a total of about 10 hours this weekend and I seriously never picked up another rod. I caught about 25 bass in total, and on Saturday I had a 20 pound bag that was all caught on the BoMB. I had a pegged plastic rigged on the boat and never even reached for it.

I’m extremely excited about this bait but durability still needs to be tested. I am going to be putting some serious hours on this bait so I can try to get these available for the fall, which is my favorite time of year for this kind of fishing.

  1. I look forward to getting some of those bombs too! It’ll work pretty great here on Old Hickory Lake in Nashville Tn. Tight lines!

  2. Buzzbait, Why didn’t you put a loop instead of a kink at the point of line attachment? I thought it was just me, but I was watching an Outdoor Channel bass tournament and a competitor lost his mind in the heat of the moment and asked that same lament because he also used a leader for a quick lure attachment! A leader attachment isn’t stabile when casting a kinked lure! (A sponsor probably had a problem) I believe I may have a full compliment of the “first generation weedless”!

  3. Said to hear the news on the BuzzBait. As for I have no use for a punch jig because none of the lakes around me in Va have grass because of grass carps. I have personally never seen a BuzzBait out of the pack that I didn’t have to tweak so maybe you’re being a little hard on yourself but your OG jugs are hands down the best so lookin forward to the BuzzBait
